Following last month’s comeback with ‘All For One’, The Stone Roses have released released new single ‘Beautiful Thing’. The band alerted fans via social media last night with the release. ‘Beautiful Thing’ is a seven minute epic, reminiscent of cuts such as ‘Breaking Into Heaven’ or even the teutonic groove of ‘Something’s Burning’. It feels looser, though, with Reni’s flowing drum breaks sounding sheer 1991 before making way for a scorching John Squire guitar solo. Lyrically, Ian Brown’s Messiah complex continues, but it seems to reference excess drug use and break ups. The track comes ahead of several reunion dates at Manchester’s Etihad Stadium on June 17 and 18 and Scotland’s T In The Park Festival on July 8.
